Dodes of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019. He was the only child of George and Helen Klein Dodes and was born on April 29, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York. David was a proud graduate of Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, NY and held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College and a Master's Degree in Urban Planning from Cornell University. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Leder Dodes and their three children and spouses: Susan L. Dodes and Jeffrey V. Jones, Dr. Glenn L. Dodes and Lisa Buckman Dodes and Jeffrey L. Dodes and Cyndi Dodes. He is also survived by his seven beloved grandchildren: Michelle Dodes, Nicole Dodes, Spencer Jones, Evan Dodes, Austin Dodes, Ellis Jones and Abigail Dodes. David had a distinguished career in urban planning throughout the tri-state area and as a local community leader and state legislator. He served as the President of the Hamden Town Council in the late 1970s as well as representing the 88th district of Hamden and North Haven as State Representative in the Connecticut legislature's House of Representatives. He was a longtime member of Mishkan Israel Synagogue in Hamden and served many years as a little league coach for his sons in both Hamden Baseball and Hamden Youth football. His passions included his family, music of all types and the New York Giants of which he was a fan for over 75 years. Funeral service and interment will be private. Audrey was born Aug. 15, 1933, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Samuel and Dina Aron. The Arons owned and operated Family Century Foods. Audrey graduated from South High School and attended The Ohio State University. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ed, Harry, Jules and Norman Aron; her sisters, Mary Sherman, Lillian Zoldan, Judy Silvers and Helen Chevlen; and first husband, Maurice Greenberg; and is survived by stepsister Sonja Schwartz (Marvin) and brother-in-law Dr. Harold Chevlen. She leaves her husband, Dr. Walter Malkin of 42 years; her son, Brad (Jane) Greenberg; her daughter, Dana (David) Siegel; and her grandchildren, Brandon and Taylor Siegel. She is also survived by her stepson and stepdaughter, Jack and Shelley Malkin; her grandchildren, Neil (Allison) and Nicholas Malkin; and great-grandchildren Reece and Greyson Malkin. The family wishes to thank Heritage Manor and their staff for their exceptional care, as well as Southern Care Hospice. Thank you to Handel?s Homemade Ice cream on Belmont Avenue where she went every day to get a scoop of her favorite coffee ice cream. Per her family?s wishes, there are no calling hours, and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Both the visits and phone calls meant a great deal to me as Aunt Audrey didn’t live in Youngstown during the periods of years when I grew up there. ABE MALKOFF YOUNGSTOWN ? It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Abe Malkoff announces his passing on March 17, 2019. Abe, son of Isadore and Tillie Malkoff was born on Nov. 14, 1919, in Youngstown. After graduating from Youngstown East High School, he attended The Ohio State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree, and a then a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1943. After graduating, he proudly served our country during World War II in the Army Air Corp/Air Combat Battalion, earning the rank of Captain. He served in North Africa and Italy and was honorably discharged in 1946 after earning seven battle stars, an American Campaign medal and a World War II Victory medal. After the war he graduated from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where he earned a degree in Orthodontics. He returned to Youngstown to open an orthodontics practice where he treated patients for over 50 years. His practice was his passion, and nothing made him happier than seeing the beautiful smiles of his patients made possible by his skill and dedication to his work. Abe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He touched so many with his kindness, generosity, and legendary sense of humor. He was selfless, always prioritizing the needs of others. Not only did he create thousands of beautiful smiles in his practice, but he put smiles on countless more with his quick wit and joke telling. He was a joy to be around and enriched the lives of all that had the good fortune to know him. He is survived by his children, Dan Malkoff (Tammy) of Columbus and Susie Malkoff Schwartz (Aaron) of Pittsburgh, and his grandchildren, Sarah and Jason Malkoff, and Jessica and Ben Schwartz. Abe was preceded in death by Norma, his loving wife of 61 years, who passed away on Sept. 14, 2018, and his brothers, Sol and Jack Malkoff.
